Choose 2 questions to answer in 5-9 sentences: 1) What is the subject of pop art? What ideas are the works of American pop artists communicating about American life/values in the 1960’s? Explain three reasons why pop artists may have decided to create art the way they did? 2) Describe Andy Warhol’s life story? What important events may have influenced the kind of art Andy Warhol created or the way he behaved as an artist? 3) From where does the Benday dot originate? What was its original purpose? Why might Roy Lichtenstein have chosen to incorporate the Benday dot in his pop art paintings? 4) Compare and contrast the work of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. How is their art similar? How is it different? Describe three ways in which a visitor to a New York gallery in 1960 might distinguish between a Warhol and a Lichtenstein?

It is the main point in the story when tension is high and we (as readers) begin to believe that things will either work out for the main character or will not. 1) Before Jackson Pollock became famous for his drip paintings, where was the center of the art world considered to be and why? What major city did he put on the map? How do you think this changed the lives of American artists after Pollock? 2) Describe Jackson Pollock’s personal life. In what ways might have Jackson Pollock’s personal life affected his painting? What can we learn from Pollock’s challenges and successes? 3) Compare and contrast the ways in which Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko use movement in their painting. Be sure to describe the artist's technique and identify the formal name of his style of abstract expressionism. 4) Describe the scale of abstraction. Identify where most abstract expressionists fall on the scale. Which painter does not fall in the same place? Where does he/she fall? Why? 5) Choose one of the four paintings featured on this test.
